Contemporary Worship Service

Pastor's name:  Mark Graham

Sermon Title:  Jesus Christ is God

Scripture:  John 1:1

Pastor's Notes:

Jesus Christ is God

A sermon reflection on John 1:1 for the first Sunday of 2010

John’s thesis: Jesus Christ is God.

His central statement in support of this thesis: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)

Three things we learn about the divinity of Jesus in this statement:

Jesus was preexistent

Jesus was with God

Jesus was God

This is the most important doctrine of Christianity.

What are the implications?

Since Jesus is God, He deserves our worship and adoration this year. Our congregational healing and unity will come primarily through worshiping Jesus Christ.

Since Jesus is God, He makes all the words of God our lifeline and authority. This year, may the Word of God bind the words of God to us as the people of God.

Since Jesus is God, our hope in eternity is secure, regardless what happens to us this year.

Since Jesus is God, He alone is the way and the truth and the life. This year, let us embrace our vision to live in such a way to draw our neighbor to the Savior.
